Build and play your very own washboard. This session will integrate those of you who have already taken the absolute beginners course with those who are brand-spankin' new. We're going to do some things together and then split into smaller groups. We'll be working in 4/4 time, and if you're new, you're going to walk away playing washboard. If you're more seasoned, we'll work on more complicated finger rhythms.
BONUS: Free donuts courtesy of Mister Baker and Randero
Cost: $25 for first timers (scholarships available; hit me up privately); 20% discount for second timers!

The band will accompany you, and we'll be moving around. If you're more comfortable remaining seated, that's fine, too.
If you already have your supplies, great!
If you're brand new, below are the supplies you'll need:
Materials to Bring with You:
1. Washboard: Bring a washboard with a metal face (glass washboards aren't suitable). Here is a wonderful small board that is inexpensive (under $25) and sounds great. I have owned lots of washboards, and this little cheap one is my favorite.
2. Finger picks: Here are some finger picks. You want "fingers" only, no thumbs. I recommend size medium for most people. They are adjustable. You're going to use four of these, 2 on forefingers and 2 middle fingers.
3. Thimbles: Here are some thimbles. This package contains one small, medium and large. You need TWO each of the size that fits you best, so buy two packages of these to make a matching pair. OR head to Michaels and try to find a few that fit. Note that thimbles need to fit snugly so they don't fall off.
4. Guitar strap and pegs (optional, but I recommend it): If you plan to play your washboard standing up, you need a strap and pegs. Here are the pegs. You can find a variety of straps online, or stop by a guitar store and they'll have a selection. I personally like soft ones (not leather), and this is a great inexpensive one that will work just fine. IMPORTANT NOTE: John will bring his drill and install your pegs and strap so you don't screw up the washboard. :)
